US Fleet Momentum — Winners & Losers

Which US operators and airframe families are growing or shrinking, from 128 operator-family fleets of five or more US-registered tails. Labels come from FAA registry net change alone (2025-07-16..2026-07-16); BTS T-100 departures and measured ADS-B activity are shown alongside as corroboration — never merged into the label. Computed 2026-07-20.

US-registered fleets only, operators as FAA registrant names — tails held by leasing trusts are not visible at operator level. Registry net change is the trailing 12 months (2025-07-16..2026-07-16); ownership transfers that keep the N-number leave no deregistration trace, so removals are undercounted. T-100 covers scheduled revenue service as reported to BTS at the carrier level (2025-04..2026-03 vs 2024-04..2025-03); owned-but-outsourced fleets (e.g. mainline-owned regional jets) show no mainline activity. ADS-B counts are distinct tails observed flying (2026-04-21..2026-07-19 vs 2026-01-21..2026-04-20; coverage since 2025-12) — an observation count, not a fleet truth: absence of ADS-B coverage is not evidence an aircraft is idle. A dash means no data, never zero. Family rows count NEW-TO-REGISTRY entrants only (factory-new deliveries plus registry re-entries; where the FAA has not yet filed a build year it is inferred from adjacent serial numbers) against permanent registry exits — intra-US transfers are excluded, so a used sale cannot inflate a family. Carriers that stop reporting to BTS show as −100% without their fleet necessarily parking. Aircraft activity data © adsb.lol contributors, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Methodology

Every number on this page comes from the precomputed fleet-momentum table; nothing is edited by hand and nothing is a forecast. Adds are currently-registered tails whose FAA registration certificate was issued to the operator inside the trailing 12-month window — new deliveries, imports, and used transfers in. Same-airframe re-registrations by the same operator (serial-number matched, so a recycled N-number never counts as growth) are excluded. Removals are FAA deregistrations attributed to the operator's registrant name: scrap, export, and transfers that cancelled the N-number.

Labels use registry net change only: at least ±3 tails, or ±2 tails when that is at least 5% of the year-ago fleet — validated against the live distribution, where most fleets sit within one tail of flat. T-100 and ADS-B columns corroborate; they never change a label. Operators are FAA registrant names, so aircraft registered to leasing trusts and finance entities are outside the per-operator view even when an airline flies them daily — fleets shown here are floors, not totals.
